Show 37: The Confessional

(Photography by Aemiessence Fine Arts not available for this show)

Audience

A packed house, a fantastic lineup, delicious drinks...there was nothing to worry about for this Living Room show! And yet, during the welcome, Abbi confessed to Luke that she was self-conscious about a lot of things and feared they would ruin the show. To stop her from sobbing Luke offered to make fun of his mistakes.

J-L Cauvin, past Funniest Comedian of All Time winner and Living Room regular, took on the role as host for the first time and introduced this parade of stars:

Mo Diggs
John F. O'Donnell
Jason Weems
Josh Filipowski
Luke Thayer
Adira Amram for a music/theater mash-up

with special guests Lois Flagel of Bear Stearns and news by game show contestant Martha Gibbs (not to be confused with 227's Marla Gibbs)!

J-L carried on the theme of confessions by announcing his most recent and costly break-up, and dissecting the power of air quotes.

Mo Diggs made his Living Room debut and served up our first spoken word comedy performance, a rap that had been aged 8 years and was ready to breathe.

Mo Diggs

We interrupted the show to bring an important announcement by Lois Flagel, head of HR, to discuss the repercussions of the acquisition of Bear Stearns by JP Morgan Chase. Employees had not yet been informed of the guerilla rebels that would break into their homes and recuperate unauthorized office supplies.

John F. O'Donnell, also a past F-CAT award winner sang half of his set and then analyzed the hidden layers of sex bomb Tom Jones.

Jason Weems came all the way over from the Nation's capital to grace the stage! He reminisced about the magic of 1980s basketball and divulged that our spotlight was capable of warming cornbread.

Jason Weems

He returned to the stage to serve as a contestant on the $25,000 Pyramid News, a game show based around the current events. He lost to returning champion Martha Gibbs, who has a skill of giving awful clues to keep people from winning.

Luke Thayer, Jason Weems and Abbi Crutchfield

Don't be fooled by his wholesome sweaters--Josh Filipowski is a confessed party thrower and goer. He shared his views on partying in the good ol' days and today. He is also a past Funniest Comedian of All Time award winner. Does he become a two-time champ?

Josh Filipowski

Co-producer Luke Thayer admitted to growing up portly and evaluated the woes of a wealthy politician.

Adira Amram closed the show with a confession about the cause of the leaky ceiling of the tenant under her. She finished with an incredible musical explosion involving a stick of beef jerky and a cameo by Paul Rubens. You really had to be there.

Adira Amram

Skibbedy bop bee bap, the Hat of Chance likes rap! And in the face three former champs, Mo Diggs became the evening's Funniest Comedian of All Time! If he sets his new alarm clock to 5:00AM, he will re-live the same day over for the rest of his life.

Winner! Mo Diggs

Bring your secrets to our next show April 11th, or we will have to let you go.

Show 13: A Very Living Room Christmas

You could have been stuck at an airport on your way home for the holiday, but instead, you chose to come out to see the Living Room show! Thanks to those who came in from the cold to watch the tremendous talent of:
Chad Weiss
Jeff Sussman and
John F. O’Donnell.

Luke warmed up the crowd and taught us the real meaning of Christmas by reading from the Good Book. Unfortunately the book was upside down, the story was wrong, and Luke revealed that he can’t read.

But the clouds parted and the heavens shined down on Chad Weiss and his fiancée guaranteeing one of his most blessed performances.

The show was interrupted several times by Rudolph the Entrepreneurial Reindeer. He offered cookies, then newspapers, and finally his musical talents in order to bring the subway to Postmark.

Celebrity Sighting: singing sensation Aubrey Hart came down to sweeten his coffee and laugh the night away!

Jeff Sussman kept it crack-a-lackin’ with old school goodness and new school crowd work.

Connecticut homemaker and future Soccer Mom Mrs. Marsha Peterson was in town visiting her sister for the holiday. With a butternut squash in the oven, she took a moment to stop by and read the news. Maybe next time she’ll read it aloud.

John F. O’Donnell riffed with pregnant audience members and then played joke doctor to heal the room and the world.

It was enough to earn him the title of Funniest Comedian of All Time where he took home the stocking stuffers of expired coupons and a set of red noses (or envelope seals, if his cards aren’t sent out yet)!

This lucky fellow won the audience prize for knowing the answer to our trivia about Rocky Balboa, a.k.a. the best film you’ll see this winter.

Be nice not naughty and come to the first show of the new year on January 12th!

Show 3: Eight is Enough

We upped the ante with SIX new performers in the show this week (in addition to the two regulars) and the pay-off was big! The audience was ready and waiting for the hilarious talent of
Lance Weiss
Barry Rothbart
Sara Schaefer
John F. O’Donnell
Becky Donohue and
Jacqueline Novak
Lance warmed up the room right away with a striped shirt and a smile and shared his thoughts on Southern Hospitality. Barry charmed the room and connected directly with the crowd to teach us the fine line between being friendly and getting arrested.

Celebrity sighting: The talented Chicago actor Warren Jackson paid a visit to enjoy the show he'd heard so much about.

We interrupted the program for an important news bulletin from the wacky and famed journalist, Rooney MacDowell.

Sara Schaefer brought a mellow mood and treated us to the hilarious half-truth that may or may not have involved her husband who may or may not have been directly in front of her.

John F. O’Donnell had the audience on the edge of their seats listening for how they could participate in his outrageous and inspired plan to save the world!
We could all relate to Becky Donohue’s travails with her mother that had the room rolling with laughter.

Jacqueline Novak kept the humor standard high with her insights into childhood and dating.

She even walked away with the coveted F-CAT award. Two gifts in one: a thermal pack with an extra surprise of a book inside! How can we afford to give away these luxurious prizes? Are we funded by a huge network like Wheel of Fortune? Or do we have a cousin in COSTCO who gets us a discount?
You’ll have to come to the show to find out. See you July 28th!
